The MAINE 400
2010 Rally
The 2010 rally was held on Friday, May 21st in conjuction with the BMW Riders of Southern Maine DownEast Rally. We had a good turnout and everybody reports that they had a great ride and lots of fun. The weather cooperated and was some of the best riding weather we could have asked for. We want to thank all of our participants, Reynolds Sportscenter for hosting our start, Street Cycles for hosting a special rest bonus, and BMW RSM for their support and our finish location, not to mention a tasty dinner.
The theme this year was "Just Plane Fun" which meant we sent our riders all over Maine looking for aviation related bonuses. Old crash sites and monuments, airports, and many other locations related to aviation were the goals of our riders. We even had an ambitious participant that brought us back a "bonus" that we took off the bonus list due to the road condition. Next year, maybe we'll leave it on.
You can read the final and official report on the results of the participants in this report. This is an Adobe Reader file, so you'll need the Adobe Reader. Be sure to upgrade your version or you may encounter errors.
Plan to join us on the 2011 Maine 400 Rally. Tentatively, we'd like to run it in conjunction with the 2011 BMW RSM DownEast Rally. So, watch this page and the BMW Riders of Southern Maine site for updated news.

What is it?
An endurance rally is a road ride with a specific route designated by a series of bonus locations.
The Maine 400 is designed with two different types of bonus locations, mandatory and optional. Mandatory
requires the rider(s) to accomplish a specific minimum in riding and tasks to demonstrate a minimum level
of riding skill and problem solving thought.
This is a contest, it is not a race . The order of finish is
determined by the number of points accumulated by the riders. Everyone who visits all the mandatory
bonuses and obtains a minimum number of points will be a finisher. Those who choose to pursue
additional optional bonuses which require more careful planning, time, and riding distance get to
acquire more points towards the final winners list. The results have nothing to do with riding fast
and everything to do with tactical planning, focused concentration, and enjoyment of motorcycling.
This rally is approximately 400 miles long, and there will be a time limit that will be announced prior to the event. A rider could
be a finisher with a minimum ride of 350 - 375 miles. Any ride over 450 miles WILL be penalized. We
don’t want anyone riding unsafely. Any rider arriving after the check-in time limit will be
penalized a number of points per minute. Any rider arriving after the final deadline will not be a
finisher.

Where is it?
The Rally will start at Reynolds Motor Sports in Buxton, Maine at 7:00am. Riders will need to arrive well prior to the starting time for check-in, paperwork, and bike and gear inspection. Reynolds is excited about the rally and look forward to kicking us off. As stated above, the rally day will end up at Hermit Island at the site of the BMW RSM DownEast Rally. The actual route will not be
revealed until just prior to the rally. We can't have anybody having their own fun before everybody
else, can we? The MAINE 400 rally ride will all take place within the state of Maine. Though it could
take the riders almost anywhere in the state, it has been designed to allow a normal riding pace and
still get back to the finish before the 10 hour cut-off.
